Bay Winchester is having a tough week.

As the local editor of Hemlock Cove's only newspaper, she just happens to be present when a body is found in an area corn maze. To make matters worse, the police believe the murder may have something to do with the occult.

This wouldn't be a problem for a normal reporter, but since Bay is descended from a well-known line of actual witches, the town is understandably on edge.

Between the suspicious townspeople, the befuddled police presence and that random hot biker guy that may or may not have something to do with the murder -- Bay has her hands full.

When you add the typical family problems, multiplying ghosts -- and one monster of a zit that she's sure came from her aunt's curse -- Bay is just struggling to make it through the week.

Of course, when the killer sets his sights on Bay, things could get a whole lot worse.

Note: These books are full of sarcasm and are a little bit snarky -- so read only if you like to laugh and you aren't easily offended. This is the first book in the Wicked Witches of the Midwest mystery series.

Gunner in turn. I’m betting those weren’t their given names. They were probably really known as Norman and Myron. When he got to the ringleader, though, I forced my attention to him. “This is Russ.” I nodded warily at Russ, who was still mentally undressing me with his eyes. “You still haven’t told me why you’re here,” I prodded. “Just wanted to see what all the hoopla was about,” Landon shrugged, accepting a beer from one of his friends and popping the top off it. I narrowed my eyes when I

face in my spaghetti. My hair was even dripping in it.” The lurid picture she wove almost made me laugh. I realized that wasn’t appropriate, so I screwed my face up in the most sympathetic way I could. “How long did it take you to come back as a ghost?” Edith seemed to consider the question. “Just a few minutes, I think.” “Did you realize you were a ghost right away?” “No. It took me a few minutes. I kept looking down at my body. I thought I was just having an out-of-body experience,” she

sounds good.” He took the freshly poured cup that Clove offered him and sat down heavily at the kitchen table. He looked to us all expectantly. “You’re probably wondering why I’m here?” Not really. “There was another body found this morning,” he continued. “Where?” “The Johnson maze, just outside of town.” “Was it ... was it another teenager?” I knew the answer. I still had to ask the question. “Yes. It was a girl this time. Her name was Sophie Maxwell.” “You identified her already?”

Sophie paused. “I don’t know,” she said slowly. “It just ... it just came to me.” “Do you remember anything else?” “It’s like a dream at the edge of my memory more than anything else,” she admitted. “I can’t see faces, but I’m starting to remember feelings. There were two people there. A man and a woman.” “Were they old? Young?” “I can’t be sure,” Sophie bit her lower lip. “I don’t think they’re old. Younger than forty for sure. I just don’t have a clear picture.” “You will,” I encouraged

“Yes,” Thistle and Clove countered in unison. “How is Marcus?” I verbally shot over to Thistle. I saw her redden at the question. “You thought I forgot about him, didn’t you?” Clove was smiling conspiratorially at me. “We haven’t seen him again,” she said. “Why not?” “Well, there have been two murders,” Clove argued rationally. She had a point. “I think you should invite him out to the inn for dinner,” I teased. “Once the zit is gone, that is.” “Does it look any better?” Thistle was
